DUX Wins again

Jumping straight to the front and always travelling well for Larry Cassidy, the good-looking entire never looked in any danger of defeat.
An easy win for his supporters who sent him out and odds-on favourite. Twice successful from three starts (trapped wide when third at his other run) this preparation, the Robert Heathcote trained chestnut has always been held in well regard. He’s a nice horse who I feel will get better once he gets up to 1400m and 1600m, Heathcote said.
Breeder and part owner Doug Newberry agreeing. This is a good horse, he said, noting that the son of the late General Nediym showed promise from day one. “He beat Hinchinbrook in a trial as a two-year-old but things didn’t go quite right during his first preparation. But he has now won four races with hopefully many more to come as he works through the grades towards black type races.
Newberry, a long time client of Lyndhurst Stud, purchased Dux Bellorum’s dam My Moccasin in foal with him four years ago. Unfortunately he had no luck at all with her, the well related mare’s next foal by Hussonet dying before missing to Hussonet and Encosta de Lago. After that we kept her at Lyndhurst to be covered by Hidden Dragon at 70 days she was positive but she had a paddock accident, breaking her femur and having to be put down. Dux Bellorum is therefore My Moccasin’s final foal and, says Newberry, hopefully her best.
Raced by Newberry with several others including Lyndhurst Stud, Dux Bellorum is being trained with a future stud career in mind and he is bound to have fans when he retires hailing from one of the world’s great families. Also dam of the stakes placed Shawnee Girl, a last start Warwick Farm winner, My Moccasin was a half sister to the Gr.1 winning popular young stallion Northern Meteor who has served 354 mares during his first two seasons at Widden Stud.
My Moccasin’s other half siblings Queen Of The Hill and Rabbuka are also stakes winners whilst her half sister Comical Smile is the dam of outstanding three-year-old Smart Missile. Further back this is also the family of the legendary stallions Sadler’s Wells, Fairy King, Nureyev and Thatching.
