The deeds of El Sugundo - 01 Mar 2007

The deeds of El Segundo, a triple Gr.1 winner, have placed the achievements of his outstanding young sire Pins in the spotlight.

A big race winner of the Australian Guineas-Gr.1, the Waikato Stud based  son of Snippets has proven an upgrader boasting excellent statistics. The sire of 109 winners from 182 runners (a high 59.9% winners to runners strike rate), Pins has been well represented by 14 stakes winners.

His stakes winner to runner strike rate of 7.7% is impressive as have been the performances of his leading progeny such as El Segundo (Underwood Stakes-Gr.1, CF Orr Stakes-Gr.1, Caulfield Stakes-Gr.1), Legs (Kelt Capital Stakes-Gr.1, NZ Oaks-Gr.1), Econsul (Caulfield Guineas-Gr.1) and Porotene
Gem (Levin Classic-Gr.1).

Pins' yearlings at the Magic Millions averaged just short of $200,000
andover $155,000 at Karaka selling for up to $360,000. There is one chance and once chance only to secure one of his sons at this
weekend's Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale.

Lot 212, a striking bay colt and the very first Melbourne Premier yearling for Queensland
's Lyndhurst Stud Farm.

Foaled on
October 29, 2005
the handsome yearling is a son of the terrific race mare Sequel Sound, winner of seven races including four as a two-year-old. A Listed winner as a juvenile and at three, she was a close up fifth in the NZ Oaks-Gr.1 and she was versatile enough to win from 1000m to 1600m.

A mare who produces good types, Sequel Sound has enjoyed solid sale success - her current 2Y0 by O'Reilly fetching $100,000. And her progeny show ability too - Our Tiersman (by Woodman) the winner of six races and Sounds Like Spring (Entrepreneur) successful from only four outings.

Sequel Sound is a daughter of the Canadian Gr.1 winner Sound Reason, highly successful sire of 39 stakes winners (64.5% winners to runners) and an outstanding broodmare sire - his daughters to date producing 51 stakes winners including the Gr.1 winners St Covet, Tartan Tights, Final Destination, Lord Revenir, Sixty Seconds, So Casual, Billion Win, Nadeem, Willy Smith, Yelgun Dawn and The A Train.

Sound Reason's strike rate as a broodmare sire is 63.3% and so the odds are really in your favour with this colt; his sire and dam sire boasting great records and his family one of the best
New Zealand
has to offer.

Sequel Sound, who is currently in foal to Lyndhurst's exciting first season sire Hidden Dragon, is one of six winners produced by her dam - the five times winning Oncidium mare Lyn's Orchid.

A mare who has established a dynasty, Lyn's Orchid is the dam of the SA Oaks-Gr.1 heroine Lee's Bid, in turn dam of the VRC Derby-Gr.1/Canterbury Guineas-Gr.1 winning stallion Arena.

Another of
Lynn's Orchid's daughters is the five times stakes winner Ultra Sound, dam of the NZ Oaks-Gr.1/1000 Guineas-Gr.1 winner Tartan Tights – in turn dam of the Chelmsford Stakes-Gr.2 winner Nevis

This is also the family of the Melbourne Cup-Gr.1 hero Baghdad Note, the New Zealand Cup-Gr.1 winner Watallan, the Singapore Derby-Gr.1 victor Paid Up and the stakes winners Pan Piper, Outcome, Prodigal, Georgia Belle, Tapping, Tangarakau, St James, Pontiac Lass, Rondabelle and Star Sapphire

This colt, who can be inspected in stable 34, Barn B, boasts a nicely balanced pedigree with duplications of the influential mares Selene, Chelandry, Marchetta, Malva, La Troienne, Mumtaz Mahal, Plucky Liege, Banshee, Sunshot, Friar's Daughter and Pretty Polly.

Meanwhile have a look at him at sirecam (attached footage):
